When words aren’t enough

Some feelings are too complex to explain.

You might talk through your experiences but still feel stuck - like something deeper hasn’t yet been expressed.

Art and talk therapy gives you another language to work with.

Through color, shape, and creative flow, as well as music and sensory stimulation using nature such as sand, shells, rocks and clay, you begin to access what’s been held inside, and that’s where healing starts.

What is art and talk therapy?

This approach combines the insight of traditional talk therapy with the creativity of art.

In sessions, you’ll have space to tell your story while using right-brain techniques like drawing, painting, collage, or mask making.

Talking helps you understand your thoughts; creating helps you access emotion.

By engaging both sides of the brain, you integrate what you think with what you feel - leading to a more complete kind of healing.

You don’t need to be an artist. You only need curiosity and a willingness to explore.

You might benefit from art and talk therapy if…

  • You’re processing grief, loss, trauma, or big life transitions.

  • You feel disconnected from yourself or your emotions.

  • You’ve tried traditional therapy but want a more creative approach.

  • You want to feel calm, centered, and in control again.

What to expect in sessions

First session:

We’ll talk about what’s been happening, what you’d like to change, and what forms of creative expression feel right for you.

Working together:

Sessions may include drawing, collage, or visual journaling guided by conversation, reflection, and gentle direction. We may suggest readings, mindfulness, or simple creative activities between sessions.

Pathway:

Over time, you’ll notice more calm, insight, and freedom, feeling both emotionally lighter and more self-assured.

The real-life impact of art and talk therapy

A clearer understanding of your emotions and story.

Renewed energy, motivation, and sense of possibility.

Relief from tension and unspoken feelings.

A deeper connection to yourself and your creativity.

Mary is thoughtful, reliable and warm. She creates a safe and comfortable environment to share and be vulnerable. As my needs in therapy have changed over the years, Mary has noticed, and offered different therapeutic solutions from EMDR to art therapy. She also recommends books, meditations and talks to support my growth outside of sessions. Most importantly to me, Mary makes me feel seen and understood, remembering the things I tell her, and giving me a new or clearer perspective.
